Eirlys Solar Farm is a proposal being brought forward by Octo Partners, in collaboration with TagEnergy, to provide clean, secure, low-carbon energy to homes and businesses across South Wales with a new solar farm near Port Talbot. We are currently updating our proposals ahead of a consultation later this year, when we’ll share our updated plans and invite your views.
These details are being reviewed in line with our updated proposals, and will be confirmed shortly. The current proposal involves:
A maximum of 30MW installed capacity
Enough energy to power 7,388 homes*
Mix of grades 4 (poor) and 5 (very poor) land quality
Electricity grid connection secured
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
Wales-based renewable energy developer
The site, in Neath Port Talbot County Borough and close to the border with Bridgend County Borough, has been carefully chosen for its potential to deliver electricity to the grid through ground-mounted solar panels. The site layout has been designed in order to minimise any adverse impact on the surrounding area.
The Welsh Government has committed to generating 70% of Wales’ electricity from renewable sources by 2030, as part of a plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions. This commitment was strengthened following the Welsh Government’s declaration of a Climate Change Emergency in April 2019.
